Child Piano Prodigy Sugar Chile Robinson - Numbers Boogie (1951)

"Sugar Chile" Robinson
As an adult I spent a bit of time trying to learn how to play boogie blues piano.

After some practice, I managed to get some left hand bass patterns moving while adding a few right hand lines and chords over the top.

You may know, getting that going initially is a little like learning to pat your head and rub your stomach for the first time.

Then—when you're trying to make your first attempts to add convincing vocals over the top of all that—fuhgeddaboudit!!

While I never became very fluent at boogie-blues piano—working at it gave me an appreciation for anyone who becomes accomplished at it.

That's especially true for today's video of "Sugar Chile" Robinson pounding out Numbers Boogie in 1951 when he was still just a youngster.

Although he was probably around 11 or 12 at the time—he looks a lot younger and seems small for his age—so it adds an even more endearing quality to his enthusiastic performance.

If you already enjoy boogie blues piano—you'll probably get a kick out of seeing this entertaining young showman knocking out a jumping bass-line along with some fine right hand work—all while sing-shouting out the lyrics.

Otherwise, if you're not familiar with this style—the video below might make an enjoyable introduction for you.

So give it a spin and see if you don't agree.

* Info from this video's YouTube description:

"Born Frankie Robinson in Detroit, the youngest of seven children born to Clarence and Elizabeth Robinson. He was nicknamed "Sugar Chile" by his mother. Although neither parent was a musician, Frankie began playing piano by ear at the age of two. At the age of three, he won a talent show at the Paradise Theatre in Detroit. By six, he was playing guest shots with Lionel Hampton's band and the Frankie Carle Orchestra. In 1946, he made a cameo in the Van Johnson film "No Leave, No Love" performing "Caldonia". In March 1946, Robinson performed at a gala in Washington DC for President Truman. He played four numbers including "Caldonia" during which he shouted out, "How'm I Doin', Mr President?" This became a popular catch-phrase. In 1947, he was the subject of a seven-minute film entitled "Frankie 'Sugar Chile' Robinson." In 1949, Robinson made his first recordings for the Capitol label. His first two releases were "Numbers Boogie", which made it to number four on the Billboard R&B charts, and "Caldonia" which reached number 14. Robinson toured and recorded until 1952, when he requested that he be allowed to return to school. He graduated from Northern High School at age 15. He went on to attend Olivet College in Michigan, and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1960.

JUSTIN BEAVER - Orphaned Rescue Beaver Loves Building Dams In House

Recently, I found the video attached below, about a professional wildlife rehabber who was keeping a "rescue" baby beaver named Justin Beaver in her home.

According to the video, something happened to JB's family and it was in need of care—and the baby beaver was too little to be taken to a rescue center.

Screen Gab From The Video Below

Predictably, instinct kicked in, and soon the growing little beaver was hard at work "building dams" in her house.

The video shows it dragging anything and everything it can find around—including her daughter's lacrosse stick, mops, shoes, toys, purses, door mats, and so on—and revealing that he's chewed on wood throughout the house doing as much as five thousand dollars' worth of damage in the process.

Beavers need to be in water at least four or five times a day, so JB is shown playing and swimming in her tub as well.

But best of all at the time of this video, they were in the process of building a habitat with a pond and trees for JB to live in.

Hope you enjoy this seeing "busy" little beaver" too.

Excellent Short And Moving Animation: A Tale

Just happened across another outstanding short (2:24) animation from France's GOBELINS - "School of the Image."

https://www.gobelins-school.com/

https://www.facebook.com/unconte

The animation is.simply called, The Tale—though the story is very moving and packs an emotional wallop in the end.

Directed by Guillaume Arantes as a Graduation Project—creating The Tale utilized both 2D and 3D techniques, but leaned heavily on hand-drawing and in the end looks more like classic 2D animation—and everything including lighting, composition, and characters are all well done.

Crazy Train - Acoustic Chillin Cover - Puddles Pity Party

Video Below —

Perhaps you've already encountered the unusual (to say the least) music videos put out by the 6'8", dead-pan clown, Puddles Pity Party (AKA Mike Geier).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Geier

It seems a lot of people love the Puddles—because his YouTube channel has over 559,000 subscribers—and he's was on season 12 of America's Got Talent where he advanced to the quarter-finals.

According to the Wikipedia entry about him:

"Mike Geier's most critically acclaimed act is his alter ego: a Pagliacci-type clown named Puddles Pity Party [and he] now performs almost exclusively as Puddles."

Screen Grab From The Video Below

On October 4, 2019—Puddles released a live video of his live acoustic cover of Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne (of Black Sabbath and TV's The Osbournes fame)—and it already has nearly 130,000 views.

Ozzy's Crazy Train original has been a staple of radio air-play, and is often featured in movies etc—and many are familiar with his version—so it's interesting to hear Puddle's contemplative, slowed down cover, and unless you've really examined the lyrics before, realize that they are pretty "deep" and more thought-provoking than expected from a "heavy metal" rock anthem.

Hope you enjoy this too!

The Box - UNUSUAL Thought Provoking 3D Animation

If you are looking for something interesting and unusual—or perhaps even a little disturbing and strange—then today's animation/video will be perfect for you.

The character designs and story are very imaginative—and the animation offers a familiar narrative of not fitting in—and trying to make a place in and overcome what-ever "world" you find yourself in—but it's all told in a truly unique and entertaining way.

The video's description adds:

"To watch the creature struggle against a dark, narrow world is hard, and yet, as the creature discovers, as long as you can feel a spark of an essential self, there is always a way towards the light."
