Video: Dog-Walker Startled By MASSIVE Moose

Hi!

Perhaps you already know that a fully grown moose can be massively large—and they can also be very dangerous, and even deadly, to people who cross their paths.

An article on moose attacks states that they can be 5 to 6.5 feet tall (1.5 to 2.0 meters) from ground to shoulder, heavier than a bear (male moose, called bulls, weigh up to 1,500 pounds [680 kilograms]), and can outrun humans.

They look somewhat comical—so part of their danger comes from folks underestimating them—especially when they are protecting their young.

Fortunately, no one was harmed in the video of a moose encounter included below—and although the people filming it found the dog-walkers reaction amusing—the older woman was probably wise to quickly turn back away from the giant moose who was having a rest in the shade of a yard in Columbine Lake, Colorado.

I've almost stopped watching most television because it has become nothing more than a commercial generator and endless paid programs hawking junk I'll never need.

When I do turn the TV on—I've been keeping track of how many times I start out with commercials rather than actually landing on a program.

It's way more that 50% of the time that I hit advertisements first thing.

In my life I've had to sit through endless commercial pitches for medicines I'll never use, feminine products I'll never need, cars I can't afford, and products I'll never buy.

And since most stations run their advertising at approximately the same time—trying to channel surf away from them is usually pointless.

So I've been hitting the mute button and putting the guide up that hides most of the screen when I'm waiting for the commercial breaks to end (many are up to 5 minutes long now) and the program I'm waiting for to begin.

Rarely however, commercials—even for things I don't want are entertaining—and break through the fog of lame and boring advertisements.

Today I happened upon a series of commercials for a car dealership that I truly found engaging and  hilarious.

They're for a fictitious auto "option" called a "Trunk Monkey" that puts a live chimp in your trunk for road-side assistance, help with using the phone wile your driving, car theft, traffic stops, and even dealing with road-raging drivers.

 IMHO the premise and execution of these ads are excellent—and definitely tickle my funny-bone—and so are worthy of being shared here.

Blind Raccoon And His Kitten Bodyguards

If you are an animal lover—today's video might pull at yer heart-strings a bit.

: )

The clip shows a wild racoon—that is blind or with very impaired vision—that had been visiting the videographer's home to be fed as many as three times a day for at least five years.

Then two stray black kittens also started hanging out in the yard to be fed as well—and the three developed a unique bond.

The video shows the raccoon leaving the porch and the two kittens staying close to it's side as it goes across the yard and into the words.

It's very sweet and cool to see the little trio of kittens and an old blind raccoon making their way through the world.

"This is a Blind Raccoon. He is at least 5 years old and has been coming to our house for about 5 years. 

There is something wrong with his tapetum lucidum. His eyes shine bright green during the day. He is at least partially blind. He walks into things. He is afraid of the wind, high grass, birds, and snow. He is out and about during the day. 

He comes to our house for food early in the morning usually around 6-9AM. He often returns for seconds and sometimes comes back for thirds. His bottom lip is missing so we feed him soft pasta noodles soaked in cream of chicken soup. We often cut up small pieces of hot dogs, ham, pork, etc. He refuses to eat canned cat/dog food. 

***(And NO, its NOT Rabies or distemper... he would have died and NOT lived for as long as he did. And Raccoons can be out during the daytime. Sometimes they are out in daytime, especially during baby season. So just because you see a Raccoon out during daytime does NOT mean it has rabies)

*** Recently (late October 2014) 2 black kittens have been hanging around our yard. And they became close with the Blind Raccoon. They would magically appear when he would come for food. So they figured out that Blind Raccoon = FOOD. So they would appear when the Blind Raccoon (and sometimes other raccoons) would show up. 

And then THiS happened today.... (November 13, 2014)

****** UPDATE ****** 

(July, 7, 2017) - Sorry for not updating! The Raccoon was around for at least 5 years before the kittens magically appeared in the woods. We don't think that he was totally blind, but his vision was VERY impaired in some way. We "think" that he may have been able to see shapes and things moving. And memory of where things were located. If something was out of place he would sometimes run into it. He would get scared easily. We never were able to figure out why his eyes were like that, even after doing a lot of research and asking our vet. But he was a miracle. And i am so glad that i had a camera with me and was able to capture this amazing one in a lifetime moment. 

Sadly Blind Raccoon passed away sometime in June of 2015. (6 months after my mom and 15 yr old cat did). We don't know how he passed away but we hope that it was somewhere peaceful in the woods behind our house. We took care of him for more than 5 years. The average lifespan for a raccoon in the wild is only about 1-3 years. So a blind/handicapped Raccoon surviving at least 5 years is a pretty long time. He was a miracle. 

I tamed the wild kittens (that was painful) and WAS going to send them to PAWS Chicago but after putting in all of that effort, loss of flesh and blood we kept them! and they now live inside with our HUGE other cat Squirt. They officially became ours on December 14, 2014 when we got them fixed and chipped. PAWS did it for free because it would guarantee that they would have a forever home. They estimated that they were about 6 months old. 

Turned out that I needed the black kittens as much as they needed me. Taming them helped me slightly cope with the loss of my mom and my 15 year old cat within 9 days of each other. Before mom came down with the flu that ended up sending her to the ER via ambulance on Christmas Eve of 2014, she said that she wanted to keep the kittens. Sadly she did NOT get a chance to spend time with them. She held one of them once, but they were still not "tame" yet. Dad did NOT want to feed or deal with the cats. He didn't want any more animals. Mom made him capture them them because she "didn't want them to get cold" and even when he did not want to keep them she wanted to keep them. I wish she was able to have spent actual "hands on" time with them. It makes me sad, but she would have LOVED to watch them. 

They are very different than any cats that we have ever had. They use A LOT of tail communication. It's so weird. And they play fight constantly. They are still a little skittish and when I am not home they often hide. As they switched over from an open format to "channels" - most of their videos are now popular culture offerings and main stream content — and it's gotten harder and harder to find anything truly unique there anymore.

Thankfully other video sites similar to YouTube have stepped in — and more and more that's where I find myself spending time if I want to just randomly search for interesting videos.

Beautiful Image And Poem By Gloria Scholik!

Hello!

In a recent art history course I took, the class discussed famous art work from throughout the world and I thought about the people of those times...hearing about those wonders...but often living to far away to even consider visiting them.  

A villager during the  Renaissance, for example, might not venture more than 50 miles from where they were born.  So for many of them standing in the Sistine Chapel was simply out of the question.

So sometimes I still marvel that we can sit in front of a screen and have the world "delivered" to us.  Within a few clicks we can see panoramas of Paris from the Eiffel Tower...or zoom in and study the brush strokes on Leonardo's Mona Lisa.

"Beyond The Mirror" is a wonderful image by freelance illustrator and artist Gloria Scholik.

Gloria has graciously agreed to let me post her image...and include a poem she wrote...which inspired her to begin creating this image:

This is another awe inspiring YouTube Video of the 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world.

According to the video's description "the main tank is called the 'Kuroshio Sea' and holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters."

Awesome Korean "Human Jumbotron"

Hi!

So many negative things get all the press these days...and yes there are a lot of big and very troubling issues we need to be aware of.

But sometimes it's great to see people united in an effort to simply entertain and have fun!

I "Stumbled Upon" a very cool video of Korean students creating a "Human Jumbotron" by flashing certain colors in their clothing and working in a pre-arranged choreography.

Sure some parts of the video are sped up...but it's still very fun to watch...and see kids having fun...pouring energy into something that isn't destructive or dangerous etc.

If you're like me and are wondering if they can do this performance live...why yes...they can.

After this video went viral (almost 119 million views as of now) they've appeared on Ellen's TV Show performing it live.

Since then they've done it in concerts and on a very odd German show where at the end of the song the hosts (a weird collection of peeps...ruin it by singing along...AT THE TOP OF THEIR SWEET LITTLE LUNGS).
