Video Compilation: The Genius Inventiveness of Buster Keaton

Hi!

Earlier this year (1-28-19), I posted about silent era film star, Buster Keaton's cinematic mastery and inventiveness.

The video in that post took a quick look at Keaton's highly esteemed film contributions—but recently when I viewed another video about him (found below)—I found myself even more enthralled by Keaton's skill, and comedic, acrobatic, and even death defying stunt work—and knew immediately I wanted to share it here.

This video is more comprehensive and shows a lot more of his silent era film work—AND when one considers that his films were made LONG before the advent of CGI and computer technology and tricks—it makes them even more amazing!

You can bet after a long day of filming these scenes Keaton went home with aches and pains, and cuts and bruises!

The video description on YouTube adds more information about it:

"Joseph Frank 'Buster' Keaton (October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966) was an American actor, comedian, film director, producer, screenwriter, and stunt performer.

He was best known for his silent films, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face."

This is my tribute to the great Buster Keaton who seem to risk it all for the sake of
comedy.

No CGI or blue screen. This man did it for real.

Music by Philip Glass.

Edited by Paul Hagl."

Even if you're not a film buff I'm betting you'll enjoy seeing Keaton's extraordinary work

AWESOME Video: Bosstown Dynamics Robot Tests

Hi!

Let's start with a quick story (unless you want to go straight to the video posted below):

It's amazing to see all the rapidly changing technology today—as EVERYTHING is taken to levels that just a few years ago would have seemed impossible.

To put it in perspective—years ago I had an elderly relative who talked about her life when she was young.  She reminisced about taking a horse and buggy from her home to a town nearby in the early 1900's.

It was only a 12 miles mile (or so)  journey, but she related it was an all day trip for her and her family.  They'd  load up early in the morning—then bounce along a dusty unpaved road to pick up supplies—and start back home in the afternoon/evening before it became to dark to safely travel the unlit roads.

By the time she related this memory to me—there was a 4 lane highway (with a 70 mile per hour speed limit) between her childhood home and the town—and you could drive there and back in less than 30 minutes.

Kids today—who grow up with a cell phone in their hands more powerful than an early computer that filled an entire room—might find it difficult to understand how much technology has changed the world we now live in.

Enter a VERY interesting video showing "Bosstown Dynamics" Testing A Robot.

A disclaimer about it is included below—but you may enjoy this best if you watch the video first.

HILARIOUS 'Stunt Woman' Video

Hi,

Today's video features a funny clip of EVERYTHING going wrong for a woman who tries to do a stunt by somersaulting onto a moped.

A Screen Capture From The Video Below

She begins with a parkour move off of a wall before jumping on the bike.

I love the look on her face when things start to go wrong and she looks right into the camera—and then the vocal reaction of the cameraman just after the climax of her failed stunt.

The best part is she wasn't hurt—and the cameraman even manages a chuckle when it becomes clear she wasn't injured (in the second video below).

Hope you enjoy this one too.

: )

I've posted two versions of the video because it keeps getting deleted from video hosting sites.

This first one shows a longer version complete with her parkour move off a wall in the beginning.

This shorter version starts just after her "parkour" move off the wall.

Tourists Flee LARGE Wave After Glacier Collapse

Video Below

Imagine taking a scenic trip to Iceland and standing on the shore admiring the frosted landscape around you—when suddenly huge slabs of ice fall from a glacier across the water create a gigantic wave of water that rushes towards you and threatens to wash everything away.

About "a dozen people in a glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland" don't have to try to imagine that—because they found themselves in just that precarious situation.  *

The good news is that all of them "appear to have made it to safety and no one was reported injured."

"Stephen Mantler, a mountain guide for the Háfjall tour company, captured the footage. He described the calving as 'one of the largest and closest we've seen this winter!'

'Also, a good illustration why we always tell our clients to immediately leave the beach if the glacier calves,' he added."
