Wow Video! Beautiful Northern Lights Time-Lapse From Iceland

Erie, Mysterious, And Beautiful Northern Lights — Time-Lapse Video Shot In Iceland

Screen Capture From The Video below

According to a Wikipedia entry: "An aurora (plural: auroras or aurorae), sometimes referred to as polar lights, northern lights (aurora borealis), or southern lights (aurora australis), is a natural light display in the Earth's sky, predominantly seen in the high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic)

Imagine what it must have been like for the first explorers who ventured upward to the far-north or south poles — to look up at the sky and see it filled with swirling, dazzling colors.

Would some have been frightened — believing the display to be some kind of omen or sign —  or would they have just marveled at their breathtaking mystery taking place before their eyes?

Even today, for those who live far removed from them — the northern polar lights still evoke a sense of awe and wonder.

Shot in Iceland, the video captures many different views of the beautiful auroras — both at night and during the day — as seen in this following composite image of screen grabs from it.

Fascinating Video - 720 Ton Dragline Excavator Moved From Island

Hi,

Just found a very impressive video showing a HUGE, 720 ton 'dragline' excavator being moved.

Photo Credit:  David Drew 2008 -  Wikipedia Article On 'Dragline' Excavators

The video shows a water channel being widened to the left of of the MASSIVE machine—and then the dragline excavator pulls mounds of rock and soil into the water to the right.

Then bulldozers help move and level that area and ultimately the GIGANTIC excavator "walks" off the island.

Even though the video quality is very low—I think it was fascinating to watch.

Hope you enjoy it too.

Amazing Video: Foolish Drunk Man's Miraculous Rescue From Lion Enclosure

The Internet is filled with videos of people in all kinds of precarious situations—and far too often those involved have placed themselves there.

---------------------

Video from May of 2016, shows an inebriated man who jumped into a Lion enclosure at an animal park in India.

The hand-held camera work is amateurish—and starts out pointed at the ground—so I have embedded it to start 5 seconds in—after it finally reveals the drunk man waste deep in water just feet from a lioness.

As people in the crowd react in fear and scream and shout—the man foolishly wades even closer to the lioness.

Fortunately, she moves away—but just then a large male approaches—getting within feet of the drunken man.

Screen Capture From The Video Below

The best part is that ultimately the man is rescued unharmed with the big cats still looking on—but still—the short (3 minute) video is spell-binding to watch.

Hope you enjoy this too!

Incredible Time-Lapse Video Of Rainstorm/Micro-Burst Over Lake

Video found below commentary

Hello!

Many years ago—right after I moved to the Arizona desert—I was driving home in a severe rain storm.

The rain was coming down HARD in a driving wind—so I decided to stop and take shelter at a convenience store—rather than risk driving in what was becoming very dangerous conditions.

Once inside, I wandered around the the small store just killing time—and peering out the window occasionally waiting for the heavy rain and wind to end.

All at once the whole building began to shake under a tremendous downward wind.

Thankfully, it only lasted seconds—both because it was pretty scary—and also because I sincerely believe the building could not have with-stood much more and collapsed.

Later—When the rain and wind finally slowed—I continued my journey homeward and found the roads covered with large tree branches and leaves—and all kinds of debris.

Then I came upon an entire shed that was sitting in the middle of the road—obviously blown there by the wind.

I knew then that it had been a very destructive storm that had covered a large area.

------------------------------

Later when I made it home—I turned on the TV and discovered all the local News Stations talking about the storm and the "Micro-Burst" that had hit the area I'd just driven through.

A Wikipedia entry about Micro-Bursts describes them succinctly:

"A micro-burst is an intense small-scale downdraft produced by a thunderstorm or rain shower."

Someone shared this NASA image on that entry—to illustrate the phenomena.

"Illustration of a micro-burst. The air moves in a downward motion
until it hits ground level. It then spreads outward in all directions."

------------------------------------------

Recently, photographer Peter Maier captured an amazing time-lapse sequence of an awesome rainstorm passing over a large lake and dumping a literal waterfall of rain driven downward by a micro-burst—(uploaded to his YouTube Channel on 6-12-18).

Peter poetically calls what he captured a "Tsunami from Heaven"—which is a fitting description IMHO.

Fascinating Video: Thrill Ride Super Cuts - Mar 25, 2018

Hi!

If you're young it may be difficult to imagine what life was like before 24 hour news, smart phones, mini-cameras like the Go-Pro, Security Cameras, and Dash Cams, etc.

Now it seems — almost everything we do is being documented — from planned "selfies" to colossal "fails" — and entirely odd or completely awesome moments — that years ago "you would have had to be there" to understand.

Fortunately — people are compiling the best of these moments — and the video below is a good case in point.

The folks who put this one together — Thrill Ride Super Cuts — celebrated their 6 BILLIONTH "like" recently — so there must be a lot of folks who enjoy compilations like this as much as I do.

Leap Of Faith By Huge Elk Over Road — And A BONUS Tale

Screen Captures From The Video - Elk Leaps Over Road
Screen Captures From The Video
Hi!

On 3-12-18, I posted a video and story on this blog about a man standing within feet of an oblivious elk herd. (please visit this link to see that entry <—opens in new window)

Today I ran across a similar very cool video of a HUGE bull elk (or possibly a large buck)—with impressive antlers—racing along a roadway in Slovakia—as a guy in a vehicle films it.

Fortunately the driver begins to slow as it becomes obvious that the bull is veering towards the road.

In the next moment—the beautiful creature LEAPS all the way over the road right in front of the car.

Although the video quality if very low—It's still an amazing video!

(Below the video I'll share a similar experience I had years ago)

-------------------------------------------

Please Note:  If the video link above doesn't work you can find an article and the video on The Daily Mail UK.

-------------------------------------------

My related TALE:

Years ago—I was driving up to Colorado from Phoenix, Arizona—on a route I'd taken a few times  before but not often enough to be completely familiar with the route:

My drive took me up the east valley's Bush Highway and through Payson to Interstate 40 —and then across eastern Arizona and into Gallup, New Mexico—and then up the "Devil's Highway 666" and on through Shiprock, NM.

Once I entered the south-western side of Colorado I found myself on narrow, winding roads north of Cortez leading up to Telluride and on to Montrose—and ultimately to a little town on the mesa near above Delta, CO.

My route (in blue) as shown on google maps
My route (in blue) as shown on google maps

I had some of my favorite music playing on CD's and plenty of coffee to help keep me awake—while racing along the winding roads past little mountain towns like Dolores, Rico, and Ridgeway, Colorado—with a large map stretched out on the car seat beside me ← LONG before internet maps and smart-phones with GPS, etc : ).

I'd left Phoenix late in the afternoon—so by the time I hit Placerville it was already very late, and pitch black—with my head-lights giving the only light ahead of me.

At Placerville I came to a "T" intersection—and with hardly a stop and glance at my map—I turned left—and quickly found myself driving up along a canyon towards Norwood, CO (see red arrow on map above).

At that point nothing looked familiar and I began to think I had turned the wrong way—but there was a steep rock face to the left—and a dark drop to the right—so I decided to just keep driving until I found a wider place to look at my map and turn around if needed.

A Google Maps "Street View" Of The Road I Found Myself On Near Norwood, Colorado
A Google Maps "Street View" Of The Road I Found Myself On Near Norwood, Colorado

The road felt a bit perilous—and as you might imagine even worse in the pitch dark—but now I had lost AT LEAST 20 minutes going the wrong direction—and it'd cost me just as much time to get back to where I'd made the wrong turn—so I sped along trying to make up for lost ground.

As I rounded a curve—I saw a large White Tail doe standing along side the road—frozen in my head-lights.

I immediately slowed to a stop—and rolled down my window and sat marveling at this beautiful creature looking back at me in the dark—from around 15 to 20 yards away.

Photo: Jeffrey Beall - "Doe, A Deer, A Female Deer"

I started to say something to it like: "Hello, Beautiful..."  ← Yeah I really did.  : )

But at the first sound of my voice—she leaped off into the dark canyon to the right with a single spring.

I felt bad because I wondered if she had been able to see where to land—or if I had inadvertently just killed the poor thing.

Pondering that—I drove on with the dome light on and juggling the map—and the road began to level out as the canyon gave way to a flatter, more open terrain—and I began seeing signs saying I would soon be entering Norwood.

I'd been distracted and hardly noticed the speed limit signs going from 45mph—to 35—and finally 25—but the thought of getting a ticket finally penetrated the fog in my brain—and I slowed to the speed limit.

Fortunately—because just THEN—as in the video above—I saw the flash of a LARGE doe, coming from the left side of the road—and it gracefully leaped right over the hood of my car as I went under it!!

------------------------

I've often thought that if I hadn't been slowing down—I would have hit it for sure.

--------------------------

I'd been feeling a bit sleepy up til then—but THAT was like a jolt of several cups of coffee—and I was suddenly felt wide awake.

: )

With my heart still pounding in my chest—I found a place to stop—got a good look at the map and confirmed that I needed to turn around and go back—and then as calmness returned I sped on through the dark Colorado mountains—marveling at the magnificent creatures I'd just seen!

Man—Drunk And High On Meth—Jumps Into Zoo’s Lion Exhibit

Hi!

I just watched a very enthralling video of a man in Taipei. Taiwan, drunk and high on drugs, who jumped into a lion enclosure at a zoo there.

It contained a VERY large male lion, with a BIG female in the enclosure who weren't too thrilled with the man's presence.

Screen Capture From The Video Below

Predictably, the big male cat begins several attacks on the man — inflicting some vicious bites with its razor sharp teeth — but even then — the crazed guy wouldn't listen to pleas for him to get out — and he tried to stand his ground against the big cats.

The video is under 5 minutes long — so I'll let you watch it to see what happens in the end.

Amazing Video: Man Calls And Elephants Come Running!

Hi!

If it isn't apparent by now—I LOVE animals.  Whenever I see a video of someone snuggling with a a HUGE lion or bear—or getting chummy with any number of wild creatures—I always want to be able to do it myself.

Today I came across this video from the Elephant Nature Park—a sanctuary and rescue center in Northern Thailand—who've dedicated themselves to saving endangered Asian Elephants:

http://www.saveelephant.org

In the video—a man calls to five giant elephants some distance away—and four of the gigantic beasts come running to him and encircle him—and you can hear their trumpets and low (contented?) rumbles.

Obviously this man and these beasts have formed a bond—just like we all do with our domestic pets.

It must be awesome to be in his shoes—and to be able to spend time around these magnificent beasts.

Hope you give the video below a spin and enjoy it as much as I did.

Amazing Video: Couple Interacts With Massive Bears

Hi,

I happened across this video a while ago and was just reminded about it.

It comes from the Orphaned Wildlife Center in Otisville, New York—and features, Jimmy/Jimbo their 20 year old, 1,400 pounds and 9 feet tall, Kodiak bear—which is a type of brown bear (like the grizzly).

While the couple who run the orphanage rescue and release all kinds of injured animals—the video just focuses on a few of their bears.

They currently care for 11 bears that cannot be returned to the wild (most were rescued as cubs from breeding programs or nature reserves that closed down).

It's awesome to see this couple interacting with these giant animals—that could easily kill them with a single swipe of their massive paws or a crunch with their large sharp teeth—giving the bears snuggles and rubs and treats—and it appears the bears love the couple in return.

Check out their website and give the video posted below a spin.

Video:The Luckiest Dog In The World

The Luckiest Dog In The World - Photo by Jephyr

Though the video quality may be low—there is no doubt that this is one LUCKY dog.

Perhaps it's part cat—'cause it definitely used up one of its lives.

: D

The video was taken a a race in Santa Cruz, Bolivia—the Codasur 2016 Rally—and the driver, Fernando Zuasnabar, may not have even seen the pup.

You can see people trying to shoo it off the track—but the dog just kept happily trotting down the track.

The near miss is about at :11 seconds.

Again—that was one lucky dog!!

Enjoy!

Amazing Video: The Luckiest Scooter Driver In The World

Hi!

Though the quality is pretty low...and the camera at an angle...this is an amazing video!!

Don't let the nice sky in background fool you

Taken from a Dash-Cam...it shows a scooter driver being passed dangerously and cut-off by a car.

A screen capture from the video
A screen capture from the video

This slows the scooter driver down just a bit...and the video ends with a VERY lucky scooter driver...and a "not so lucky" car driver.

Information from the video's description indicates it occurred on May 26, 2016 (video date is wrong), in Russia on the Rostov-Taganrog highway in the Neklinovsky area.

As a result of the accident a woman was taken to the hospital. There is no indication of the extent of her injuries or if anyone else was injured.

Neither the scooter Driver or the driver of the car with the cam were hurt.

Warning:  This video may not be appropriate for everyone...please use discretion before viewing it!

TRON Inspired - Amazing "Light Suit" Performance

Hello!

I was stumblin' around StumbleUpon.com and came across this pretty amazing TRON inspired "light suit" dance performance.

It was created by a Japanese crew called the Wrecking Orchestra.

It starts a bit slow...in fact the first moves don't start until about 30 seconds in...but it picks up speed from there and by about 1:15 they're rockin'!  " )

Enjoy!

Awesome Four Minute Rube Goldberg Photo Machine

I'm generally not all that impressed with Rube Goldberg devices.

Sometimes it feels as if when you've seen one you've seen 'em all.

In this case I really enjoyed the video of this one!

First, due to the length of time that it goes, and goes, and goes.   : )

And second, because it is filmed in a single take and runs from beginning to end without a hitch.

Yes...I'm aware that there are a few times "ads" for the peeps who put it together appear for a second or two...but hey...everyone needs (deserves) to make a buck.

(Or rather since they're Canadians:  Everyone needs to make a "loonie"!!)

Speaking of filthy lucre...the $$$ amount of equipment shown here is mind boggling!!

At the beginning there are approximately 24 SanDisk Extereme Pro memory cards that each run about $370.00 new!!  And that is just the tip of THAT money-pile iceberg!!!  : )

As is the norm with videos on the Awesome Stuff Blog...first a few screen captures...and then the video:

Kuroshio Sea - 2nd Largest Aquarium Tank In The World

Shot at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan:

This is another awe inspiring YouTube Video of the 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world.

According to the video's description "the main tank is called the 'Kuroshio Sea' and holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters."

Wow!

Kite Surfer "Flies" Over Pier

Howdy!

This video is a bit hard to see but I still thought it was worthy of inclusion on a blog about Awesome Stuff!

The title on YouTube is: Kite Surfer Redington Beach 6-24-12

I believe it is genuine because of the reaction of those around whoever is taking the video.

Here's a screen-cap for folks who's browsers won't display the YouTube preview image.
