Saguaro cactus puts man in intensive care 

YUMA, Ariz., June 22 (UPI) -- A city employee in Yuma, Ariz., suffered a broken back and internal injuries when a large saguaro cactus fell on him as he worked on a water leak.

Full-grown saguaros weigh from 3,200 to 4,800 pounds and are held in place by a network of shallow roots, anchored by a single deep tap root.

Railroad worker killed by newsprint roll

UPPER MERION, Pa., May 19 (UPI) -- A railroad engineer making a delivery to a newspaper plant
in the Philadelphia suburbs died Friday when a roll of newsprint weighing almost a ton fell on him.

Puck to throat kills hockey player

EDMONTON, Alberta, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Family and friends grieved Monday for a teenage Canadian hockey player who died after being hit in the neck by a puck.

Kyle Fundytus, 16, was hit while blocking a shot during a youth league game in Edmonton, Alberta,

Saturday afternoon and died at a hospital Sunday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.


17 electrocuted at Brazil street party
BANDEIRA DO SUL, Brazil, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A live power line fell onto a crowd at a Brazilian street party, killing 17 people, police said.

Another 50 people were injured in the freak accident Sunday night in the town of Bandeira do Sul in Minas Gerais state, the Brazilian news site Folha.com reported.
